Dear Students,
Extracurricular Activities (ECA) sign-up will be open for term 3 starting Monday, 16 March at 1pm. You should have received your SOCS login instructions if you are in Year 7 or are new to Renaissance College.
Before you sign up, please make sure you discuss your choices with your parents and take note of any fees / costs. In line with other ESF Secondary schools, parent access to the SOCS system has not been enabled and only students are able to access the platform.
Supervising teachers will review the sign-ups and will give priority where possible to students who were on the waiting list last time if this is an activity that also ran last term. Students are reminded that if they select an activity they are making a commitment and should attend for the duration of the activity. If they are no longer able to attend, they must withdraw from it by emailing or speaking to the supervising teacher so that their space can be offered to another student.
Registration will remain open until Friday, 27 March at 1pm.
Please check SOCS from Monday, 13 April to see your list of activities / status or check the notice boards outside the secondary office. Please note that for some activities, there will be a payment.
If you experience any problems with your SOCS account, please contact our Red Door Centre at helpdesk@rchk.edu.hk.
“Draw Your Blue Rose on the Moon” Art Competition
This competition aims to use creativity as a starting point to explore the relationship between art and technology. In the age of AI, the initiative has three main objectives: to encourage young people to rediscover traditional drawing, to reaffirm the value of drawing as a form of personal expression, and to guide the public in approaching and using AI as a supportive tool in the creative process.
The competition is divided into two categories: Traditional Drawing and AI / Digital Art. Participation is completely free, and prizes are offered to encourage creativity, with awards of up to HKD 10,000. Winning entries and selected works will be exhibited in a themed art exhibition at a social enterprise art space in Sham Shui Po, providing students with an opportunity to have their work showcased and recognised.
The competition takes inspiration from the song “The Blue Rose on the Moon” and entries will be judged with the participation of singer Ramon Lo. Ramon Lo graduated from the Interior Architecture program at the Rhode Island School of Design and the Graphic Design program at Parsons School of Design, bringing both creative and professional perspectives to the project.

Kids4Kids is hosting a mental health drive for domestic helpers. Domestic helpers are a unique group of people in Hong Kong that have not been given attention in terms of mental health care, they have to leave their families, and deal with mistreatment and overworking. We believe that we can make a difference by gathering products such as lip balms, face masks, shampoos, body soaps, lotions, sunscreen, sunglasses, portable fans, selfie sticks, perfume, non-perishable foods and coupons! We hope to be a ray of happiness that makes a difference in these helpers' days.
A box will be placed at the MTR gate from March 9th to March 17th open to everyone to donate. All proceeds will go to the domestic helpers in Hong Kong. Remember, when small efforts add up, they make a big difference!
If you have any questions feel free to email paryal1@rchk.edu.hk
Thank you on behalf of the Kids4Kids ALTs

Our IB Career-related Programme partner institute World Academy of Sports is offering this truly unique opportunity for our student leaders to experience the 2026 Asian Games in Japan first-hand.
The Games Experience Programme (GEP), delivered jointly by the World Academy of Sport (WAoS) and Shigakkan University, is a four-day international sport leadership immersion taking place in Nagoya, Japan from 29 September – 2 October 2026.
This is not simply a study tour. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students to engage directly with a real-world global sporting event — to observe elite athletes in preparation and competition, gain behind-the-scenes insight into event operations, and participate in expert-led masterclasses delivered by international sport leaders.
The GEP is designed to support the development of IB students in Year 10, 11, and 12 students who are interested in sport, leadership, global engagement, and event management.
Through the GEP, students will:
Hosted at Shigakkan University — an institution with roots dating back to 1905 and a strong philosophy of holistic wellness and global citizenship — the programme integrates academic insight with authentic exposure to one of the world’s largest multi-sport events.

ESF ART EXHIBITION - ‘TOMORROW’
The theme of the show this year is ’Tomorrow.’
This is a unique word in language, as it describes something that can never exist. With the dawning of each new day, tomorrow moves away from us again. It is a word that represents a future state, something to look ahead to, to wonder about and to stimulate our dreams.
In this exhibition, we are looking for students to imagine the future. It could be their own, it could be the future of our planet, or it could be a glimpse into the world of science fiction: what will technology look like in hundreds of years? How will we live? What will we be doing?
The only pre-requisite is the pieces should not be about the here and now. We are looking for the students to look ahead to the future, to think about what comes next. To think about tomorrow.
Deadline for Artwork: Monday May 4th - 3:20pm
Where to Submit: The artworks should be submitted to either Ms P, Mr Gadbury (Primary Art Rooms or Mr Deakin (Room 411 - secondary)
Details: RC is permitted to showcase only 16 artworks. The Visual Art department will select artworks which represent all year groups and are deemed to represent the theme of ‘tomorrow’, if more than 16 artworks are submitted.
Event Details:
Art Exhibition Period: June 17 to 21 (Free admission, open to the public)
Theme: Tomorrow
Time: 10 AM – 7 PM (Daily), 10 AM - 4 PM (June 21)
Venue: Exhibition Hall, 1/F, Low Block, Hong Kong City Hall (5 Edinburgh Place, Central, Hong Kong)
Grand Opening Event: June 16
Good luck!
From Monday, 19th January until after the Easter holiday, there are no available theatre spaces to book at lunchtimes for projects outside of the Theatre curriculum. The Theatre Studio is being used every day for Idol rehearsals, and so the BBT is reserved for curriculum rehearsals only. If you wish to book the BBT for rehearsals for your Theatre work, please email houghl2@rchk.edu.hk.
Apologies for the inconvenience!
External Competition: Young Geographer of the Year Awards 2026
Launch Announcement of the 6th Hong Kong Young Geographer of the Year Awards
Open to primary & secondary students in Hong Kong
Submission Deadline: 31 March 2026
The RGS-HK is excited to launch the 2025-2026 Hong Kong Young Geographer of the Year competition – also known as YGOTY (http://www.ygoty.hk/)
We would like to encourage our Members and their family members, relatives and friends to participate in the competition. If you know any likely applicants, please encourage them to submit entries digitally via this form. The link can also be found on ygoty.hk
Since its first launch 6 years ago, the competition has reached thousands of students, from numerous local and international schools - across ages 6 to 23. Each year, about 25 winners receive prizes including financial prizes, Ocean Park tickets, membership to the RGS-HK, and their photos being exhibited through the Royal Geographical Society - amongst others.
Our judges are an international panel; include renowned architects and esteemed photographers; are recognised by awards and publications; and feature stellar pedigrees.
During the prize-giving ceremony this year, the students (and their parents) shared with us how excited they were to have won their awards, and to impress these experts. All the winning entries are viewable on the website.
This year, the competition’s format remains the same: a visual (photograph, map, sketch or infographic, collage) accompanied by a brief written explanation that demonstrates knowledge and application of geographical concepts that connect to the competition’s themes.
Each student can enter one submission for each of the following themes:
Nature: the uniqueness of the natural environment and species of Hong Kong
People & Culture: the character of Hong Kong people & their ideas, customs or behaviour
Urbanscape: the unique signatures of Hong Kong's built environment
Critical Eye: the socio-economic or environmental issues that matter in Hong Kong
The winning entries are going to be displayed in a Hong Kong Young Geographer of the Year exhibition and there is going be a prize giving ceremony for the winners open to Members, with the awards comprising financial prizes and RGS-HK student benefits.
If you have any enquiries, please send an email to education@rgshk.org.hk for more information.
Note: This is an external competition.

Dear parents and guardians,
With Season 1 now drawing to a close we are excited to announce that Season 2 is about to begin.
The sports on offer are basketball, tag rugby and cross-country. Inter-school competitions are planned for each sport and offer a fantastic opportunity for students to test their skills, both individually and as a team, against others.
Trials will be held as there is a limitation on the number of students that can be part of each team, due to venue size and staffing. The tryouts will take place during the week of December 1 with those selected invited to start training the week beginning 12 January.
Please speak to your child before signing them up for a tryout to make sure that they understand the commitment required if they are selected for a team. Please note that signing up for a tryout does not mean that your child has been accepted into a team for the whole season.
After all trials have been completed parents will be notified via email to let them know whether or not their child has been successful in securing a place on their chosen team/s. If they have been successful, further permission for the season will be required before the first training session.
Season 2 (12 January – 20 March)
Tag Rugby
Mixed team (girls and boys) – Trial on Tuesday, 2 December on the MPP from 3:15pm to 4:15pm.
Please meet outside the uniform shop. Students will be dismissed from the uniform shop after training.
Cross-Country
Mixed team (girls and boys) – Trial on Wednesday, 3 December from 3:15pm to 4:15pm at the promenade. Students are to meet in front of the PAC at 3:15pm and will be dismissed from there at 4:15pm.
For students born before 1 August, 2015 they will need to be able to run 2km in less than 14 minutes and for students born on or after 1 August, 2015 they will need to be able to run 3km in under 20 minutes to be considered for the team.
We suggest having a practice run before the try outs to see if your child is able to achieve this. There is a morning Run Club in the secondary gym every Tuesday morning from 7:50am to 8:15am which is open to everyone in Y3-6. Your child is welcome to attend this practice.
Basketball
Mixed team (girls and boys) - Trial on Thursday, 4 December in the Secondary Gym from 3:15pm to 4:15pm.
Please note the arrangements for Season 2 basketball as a follow on from Season 1 pre-season:
Season 1 Trialists/Squad members: Invited to Season 2 trial on a case by case basis via email on Friday, 21 November;
New Trialists (Non Season 1 Trialists/Squad members): Please sign up on the Season 2 Google Form attached below.
Students are to meet inside the primary gym at 3:15pm and they will be dismissed from the secondary gym at 4:15pm.
If selected training will be on the same day and time as trials.
Please sign up for season 2 tryouts here. The deadline for sign up is Wednesday, 26 November.
No acknowledgement will be given of submission or reminders sent by the school in the lead up to trials. It will be your responsibility to ensure that your child arrives at their chosen trial/s with the correct equipment and on time.
As always, all important information can be found on Primary Black Kites.
Thank you for your continued support of the programme.
Kindest regards,
Mr Smart
Head of Primary PE and Sport
